My son was born at 38 weeks on September 2nd and was 5 lbs. 5.7 oz. and 19 inches (Natural Birth). I was so surprised he was so little! Mid-October he was 9 lbs. and 2 oz. and 22.5 inches. The doctors had no reason for his low weight. I just will like to hear other women stories! Thanks in advance for sharing :)

My first baby was born at exactly 38 weeks and weighed 5 pounds 12 oz. My second was born at almost 40 weeks and weighed 6 pounds 6 oz.

Babies tend to have similar birth weights to their own mothers, but scaled up a bit because each generation tends to be a little bigger. I was only 5 pounds at birth and I was a week late. Have you asked your mother what weight you were? That may provide a clue. You would have to adjust for number of wks gestation of course.

First babies tend to be smaller than later ones.

Something else to remember is that 30 years ago your baby would not have been considered small. Because babies are getting bigger, the goalposts have changed.

Sounds like he is growing like a weed now! All babies are different. My sister is a diabetic and she kept her blood sugars under such good control that my niece was only 6 pounds 2 ounces. As long as he is healthy don't worry about it too much. My son was a preemie (Almost 3 months early) and was 2 lbs, 15 oz at birth and by the time he came home 10 weeks later he was 6 pounds even, and now he is 3 years-old, about 35 pounds and no health issues, and no delays.
Congrats on the new little one!

don't be stricken too plenty, your infant is way less then a pound under weight and the margin for errors on estimating fetal weight is a pound one way or yet another. Your infant o.k. must be the traditional 5.5 lbs at 36 weeks or bigger and you in basic terms do not are conscious of it. there's an excellent style of time to advance between now and then. the traditional infant born at 40 weeks is approximately 7.5 lbs. this is 2 finished lbs in 4 weeks. Even that places your infant at 6lbs 12oz, in basic terms shy of 7lbs. this is a sturdy length infant. not small for gestational age in any respect. Dont subject, each little thing will artwork out ok. BTW all my mom's young babies have been born at 6lbs and much less and we are all healthful, so no concerns.

Maybe he was just little. If mom and dad are little baby will (hopefully) be little.
Sometimes a baby will be little if the cord was implanted at the side of the placenta instead of closer to the middle but if the doctor had no explanation about it then this is probably not what happened as the doctor will examine the placenta after delivery. There are other placenta problems that can cause a little baby but it would be visable at delivery as well.
He wasnt so small that it is abnormal though. Maybe you just grow em small and they get big after they deliver.

I gave birth to my girl last july and she was only 2.6KG.. I breast feed her for a month but with formula, her pedia said the low-birth formula is helping her gain more weight than usuall milk for new born. when she was 3 months old, she was already 6.6KG. 68cms.
