I want to increase my knowledge, education, intelligence and imagination. I want to do this on my own, if possible. There are two problems with this. First, I have trouble reading because I can't concentrate on what I read. Second, I don't even know where to begin. If you can identify with what I am feeling then please leave some advice. Thanks in advance.

I have an interest in the arts; music and painting in particular. I want to learn more about philosophy, religions, astronomy, and studying the afterlife as well.

Reading is the best.

However, you can also increase knowledge by talking to people who are experts in their fields. Befriend older people and listen to what they have to say. Ask questions.
Travel to places new to you. It doesn't have to be another country, it could be the next town. Try to see something new every day.
Your feelings are normal especially if you are an adolescent. It shows you want a lot out of life. Go out there are experience life and that is how you will learn.

Well, I didn't have the internet when I was growing up. But, now that we do have it, I use it all the time. One website I would suggest is wikipedia. You can start on some topic and click links on words to go see what they are about. It's great.

About the 'having trouble reading' thing. I know exactly what you are talking about. When I was in college and studying philosophy, I would ponder things while I was reading. After a while, I would realize that I had read the same sentence over and over and over and I still didn't understand what it was saying. My suggestion is: some reading material will be better absorbed at different times in your life. Unless you just HAVE to understand some piece of writing, if you're not getting it, leave it for another time and move on to something else that you are capable of concentrating on.

Hope this helps and major luck to you...

P.S. There are far too many places to begin so type in a word at the website below and keep linking until you've accessed every piece of knowledge available. :)

Eva you're sitting in the same boat I am. So let me tell you what oars I used.
I went to art school at the Ontario College of Art for Fine Arts and when I left I pursued my interests in history, the visual arts, and God.
I built an entire library of all that took my interest. Old books, second hand books, new books all books that had to do with biblical history, celtic history, art history, military history, ( I am an army brat ) as well as books on tools and woodworking concrete forming sculpture, bronze sculpture and related books on the technology involved in my interests. Books that explain the technologies I use for my art, books that teach, and books that are a marvel to read just for the sheer joy of the story.
A library. Start to build it now. I started long before I went into college and I have not regretted it at all.
I know you can get all you pretty well need on the Internet but there is something lacking when you try to cuddle up on a cold night with a cup of cocoa and a P.C.!
I had trouble reading as well but trust me darlin you are going to have to get through that obstacle. In doing so you will gain an incredible amount of knowledge, and your imagination will be fueled with what you know. Not what you can think up, but knowledge. Knowledge applied is where your strength is going to be because knowledge alone is not power. It is the application of your knowledge. Okay? Great! Go get started, and all the best to you.

Well, PLEASE forgive me for sounding arrogant but I think you’re a couple “levels” behind me. I remember being in those shoes once and for me getting out of them to where I am now involved a lot of work and boredom. You are going to have to study some books! I would recommend finding text books from colleges that interest you and reading them. You should gain new perspectives on life. As of right now, maybe all that you understand is you. Find a way to get out of your town and see the world from a different angle. See the world from as many different angles as you can and you will shed the small mind of only one perspective. Really though, you’re going to have to start reading! It might be boring at first, I certainly thought it was, but now I’m to the point where I enjoy reading college text books.

Try looking into 1-800-232-6459 http://www.family.org re attention deficit and/or dyslexia resources.

Try readng "Proust and the Squid" re the advantages dyslexics bring to life...there are many being found.

Try audio cassettes from http://www.teach12.com

Try reading "Watch Your Dreams" and "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, "Man, Master of His Destiny," O. M. Aivanhov, "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck.

Try http://www.coasttocoastam.com radio (click on "Affiliates" button for local station). Thursday's guest, http://www.seandavidmorton.com will be worthwhile.

Glad you are interested in improving your consciousness, being, and world. Http://www.tiller.org and "Psychoenergetic Science," by Dr. Tiller, might be worthwhile, as also Lynne McTaggart's "The Field" and Dr. Kharitidi's "The Master of Lucid Dreams." Some may be on audiobook format. Ask local library; they are usually glad to serve. "The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis, makes for great reading. As for Christian theology, try http://www.ligonier.org for local stations carrying this M-F broadcast. Http://www.family.org likewise, as both are quite worthwhile, inspiring. Http://www.klove.com is an inspiring contemporary music outlet, with station map. If you become good at what you do, consider writing and publishing a book for those who constitute a niche market, who would like to do somewhat as you're doing. Http://www.csmonitor.com has a wealth of world-wide coverage of positive, uplifting knowledge. The books cited are worth your extra effort, I believe. Try some, and make up your own mind, with God's help and guidance. God bless you.

cordially,

You can increase your brilliance and increase your attention span by being on the Self. This is the ancient and most perfect way to increase knowledge since the light of life is the source, course, and goal of all knowledge.

A simple explanation of this is in the free online resource... Gospel Enigma: and the Young Heretics. Find it at New Free Books, right at the top.

Just increase over all knowledge? Are you looking to kick butt at Trivial Pursuit or something? Think of specific fields of interest to you and go from there, if the thirst for knowledge and to learn more is apart of who you are, your interests and curiosities will expand and branch out into other fields.

If there is a university near you...you could get permission, maybe, to sit in on some of those classes for free but with out earning credits. You could at least ask...There are also audio books at your library....just check and see what they have?

Listening is a great way to learn. I can't do that as I am hearing impaired but I can read write and make sense of it all.
Have that profound yearning take you to the library and tell them what you are looking for and needing. GOOD LUCK

The internet is a vast source of information, and what's better, it's typically tailored to the shorter attention span. Condensed articles are full of information but not alot of explanation at times, which is fine. Clue in on Keywords and feed them into Google or Wikipedia. Find some friends with these highly evolved interests. Assimilate.
