My gosh Slk , it just goes to show, power is a dangerous thing for some jerks to handle.

Slk have you contacted the U.S. Department of Transportation? They will send you a form to fill out and write them a letter telling them what happened. You might get your money back, plus a one way ticket back to DC, I have done this before when I had a legitimate gripe, it does take a while, but worth it.

I love to fly but my last experience at the airport was a freak show. I left Charleston, SC to go to DC for 6 weeks last year, my drivers license expired, even though I have many picture ID's including an employment ID, they weren't going to let me fly home! That and I had toothpaste in my purse, I got searched, air blown searched, ligthers confiscated, shoes off and they had to call security and were not going to let me fly home. I was detained, almost missed my flight even though I had gotten to the airport 3 hours early, it was a freak show. An ol' lady going to blow up a plane with a tube of Crest....

In my earlier years I was a flight attendant! Have flown around the world at least 4 times. Have been lucky enough to live in foreign countries for short periods of time and have met a lot of very good and interesting people - but that was then - and this is now. Am 66 now, and NO I WILL NOT FLY TODAY! Not only is Big Brother watching you but so are the terrorists!

I love to fly but as slk says it is a lot more complicated now with all the new rules. I will keep flying though since I hate to take long driving trips alone. Safety is pretty much a toss up in my situation.

I'm flying to Laughlin, NV in a couple of weeks via Las Vegas. I try to reserve a comfortable seat, isle or exit row if possible. I take along something I like to read or listen to. When I had a long work commute, I learned to enjoy books on tape.
I'm OK physically so don't have a big physical challenge but my hips and legs get tired from all the sitting and I'm a bit stiff when I first get up.
It does me good to get away to a new environment once in awhile.

I HATE TO FLY!...but given my penchant for travel to other worlds, I have no choice but to do so. I have had many really scary experiences aboard aircraft and have this real fear of 'going out' that way.

BUT I continue to fly! In late August I flew to San Juan with my daughter and her sons and she got me a tranquilizer to calm my nerves. It put me to sleep, as I'm not used to those kinds of meds. Good thing!

In Sept. '08 I am flying to Paris with one of my old high school dorm mates from France to stay for 10 days. We are staying with her eldest daughter who lives there. Believe me I will be 'tanked up' with good LA - LA meds! since I don't drink.

BTW- in 2002 I took my mom with me to St. Thomas, USVI for a week to my time share there...She is now 88 so then she was 83. They pulled her aside and searched her, made her take off clothing and scared her witless! Not to mention they insisted I couldn't accompany her while they did so. I raised such Hades, they finally agreed!

GO FIGURE...what in the heck could they have suspected this Alzheimers' Super Senior to be up to?

I don't like to fly anymore. Just no fun with all the rules. The worst is seperating my family. No longer get assigned seats. If could drive to Hawaii, I would.

I hate to think this makes me weird, but I really enjoy being on planes. My first experience was crappy, I flew from Gatwick, UK into Detroit Wayne state airport, Michigan, to find my luggage was in Minnesota?! But I handled it well after screaming at a man (Sorry!) and I enjoy it now!!!

I refuse to fly as long as they are up to seeing just how much they can humiliate people. Talk about invasion of privacy!!!
