I don't think it is necessarily the females, since I notice the same overuse of exclamation points on sites where it is safe to say most of the posters are male. In addition to all the exclamation points, these posters also love emoticons, especially the emoticons that roll around or bounce up and down, i.e. the ones that fit their naturally hyperactive personalities. You can't use emoticons here though. I'll bet that ticks them off.

The use of all upper case is another trait of these posters. Some post in all caps, some capitalize about every third word, while still others get cute and capitalize selected syllables. "WOW!!! Randy the MACHO MAN is unREAL!!!" I agree with those who say their ears hurt whenever they read one of these posts.

As for why they do it, I'm really sure it is because they are starved sexually. These posters are all virgins and full of tension. The exclam/emoticon/capitals syndrome will stop when they finally get what they are looking for. If Freud were still around, I am sure he would agree.

The use of multiple exclamation marks shows how excited she is about something. It's also poor grammar.

As we get older, we generally learn - and begin to use - better writing skills. We've also been out in the world a little longer and we're not so excited about things anymore. ;)

And, the question is perfectly phrased. Oops, a spelling mistake...shoot the asker.

More than excitement or immaturity I would say it's a forceful nature. Woman tend to use force in words and what other way to show that other than using bunch of exclamation marks?. !!!!!

The chromosomes they have as females cause them to be heavy-handed when striking certain keys... They're just like that. Nothing can be done. Shopping, talking on the phone, typing "omg," all of these things are the things that they have done, do, and will continue to do, well into old age.

Because young females think whatever's goin on in their life is the end of the world and they feel the need to shout it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because girl's are emotional. You also find little hearts instead of dots on an "i" when they are writing.

Regardless of who does it, it is redundant.
One of my pet peeves in grammar.
