I have not yet started my period, but I was wondering if I could wear one once in a while. Like, maybe just for an hour 1/2 or so at school, just to get used to it or something? It doesn't bother me, so why not?

Tampons are designed to soak up menstural blood before it leaves your vagina. In the absense of menstrual blood, it will soak up your natural lubricants (mucous) leaving your vaginal walls dry and it will HURT to remove it. I don't advise getting accustomed to tampons this way. Just wait until your period starts to try them. Also, if this is your first time trying tampons, be sure to look for a "teen" variety. It has a more slender applicator so it's more comfortable.

It is not recommended for two reasons.

1. Tampons are made to absorb menstrual fluids. If you're not on your period, you do not need a tampon. Using one when you are not menstruating can cause all sorts of problems, not the least of which is infection.

2. Tampons are designed to absorb a certain level of fluid before they can be comfortably removed. If you are not menstruating, you will not produce enough fluid from your vaginal discharge to allow for the ease of removal and it will cause pain and possible tearing of the vaginal wall.

So in short, NO, you should NOT wear a tampon unless you have your period.

No, you can not use a tampon when you are not on your period. The reason for this is that you can get infections and it would not be healthy to have in. When on your period the tampon is easy to put in and take out because you are bleeding. But if you use a tampon when you are not on your period then theres not really anything to make it easy to take out and put in. There is a great risk of getting TSS also known as toxic shock syndrome.

This is not a good idea at all. Your body is highly likely to get an infection, or Toxic Shock Syndrome. The dry tampon will most likely itch, and be very uncomfortable and hard to remove. If you are worried about getting your peroid at school wear either a panti-liner, or a small pad.

Tampons should never been worn when you are not on your period as there is an increased risk of you getting a condition called Toxic Shock Sydrome(google it!). This condition can be very dangerous!

I would advise not wearing one without your period. First it would probably absorb some much needed moisture that you need down there... Plus, the longer you wear a tampon, the more you are at risk for TSS or Toxic Shock Syndrome.

It can be very painful to remove a tampon when it's dry. Also, it's not the greatest thing for your vagina and may increase your risk of infection and TSS (rare).

You can, certainly.

Be ware, however, that every foreign object put there has some risk of toxic shock syndrome. Putting something there when not useful is basically incurring some risk without gain.

If you consider "getting used to it" a gain, then by all means.

The risk of toxic shock is incredibly small, but none-the-less there.

i would not recomend it. the box says to use them ONLY during your period. you are increasing your chances of TSS. and, it will hurt while it is up there because there is no blood to soften the cotton. it will hurt. you will get used to it once your period actually starts. good luck!

I would not advise that at all. It will be more painful and harder to insert and take out. Plus it will be a waste of a tampon. Do not do it.
