It was in June 1983 that Dario took up his present post as manager of Crewe Alexandra. At the time, Crewe were the perennial whipping boys of the old 4th Division, having finished in the bottom three for 4 of the previous 5 seasons. Over the next 20 years, under Dario’s leadership, Crewe have been promoted 4 times and are now 2 divisions higher than when he took over. In addition, the ground has been completely redeveloped and crowds have increased five-fold. In 1998, he was awarded the MBE for his contributions to the sport of football.
This makes Dario the longest serving football club manager in the UK?

While the typical stereo type is that the English are arrogant and deluded, I can tell you, as an Englishman that is not the case. Come world cup time the tabloid press go way overboard with the 'We are going to win it by a mile' stuff. And yes we fans support our country to the hilt like any football fans of any nationality. But I dont think anybody genuinely expects to win the bloody thing. I dont even think our team are particularly under achievers either, we have achieved what we have deserved to over the years. Close to bugger all. If there were any genuine beleivers that we were the best team to grace the planet then they have been brought down to earth with a bump by not qualifying for the Euros. Dont believe what the Scots, Irish Welsh or anyone else says. Most England fans know that ours is an average side that lives on the inflated reputations of our players.

Funnily enough, he's still not the longest serving manager at Utd. I think he's got to go for a few more years to beat Sir Matt Busby.
