Did Moulin Rouge use digital effects? If so what for?

(I'm talking about Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film)

they did use some digital features, but it was mostly blue screen effects. When Satin and Christen are dancing in the clouds, that whole scene is on a blue screen, and alot of the scence showing Paris threw windows, the city is added in digitally, it's all shown in the special features on the dvd.
