Pagens celebrate another holiday during that time...Christians wanted to put their relgion into the pagen towns and such. They put Christmas in where the pagen Holiday was. They let them keep some traditions, such as trimming a tree.

Scholors, Even biblical ones, agree the Christ was born in the spring months.

I'd have to look it all back up but, of course, it all began in the first century with the birth of Jesus. Over the years, different people celebrated on different days. A Pope decided to borrow a Pagan holiday celebrating the sun, December 25 and start celebrating the Son, and particularly His birth, on that day. Most of the world eventually followed suite although not everyone.

Go to Wikipedia or the History Channel on line. I've always found good, accurate information on both.

as with so many Christian holidays, it was a pagan celebration that was altered (no pun intended) to bring the people to Christianity.
