I think it's pretty ridiculous. Here we have another lapdog of Bush who is just trying to smooch with the world's superpower and bask in that power. I bet so-called conservatives are just ecstatic that Bush has one more influential, legitimate crony in the world. Sarkozy, of course, is careful not mention Iraq because french citizens are overwhelming opposed to Bush's policies. So what is Sarkozy doing with Bush?

I find it both hilarious and horrible, that once he'd alienated every one of our longtime stable allies, President Bush has found his friends in France and North Korea.

The French electorate voted against a liberal candidate that they didn't trust, much like Americans were voting AGAINST Kerry rather than FOR Bush. The French liberals will move toward the center with a better candidate in the next election and Sarkozy will be history.
Bush and Sarkozy can be as chummy as they like, but there won't be French troops joining Bush's Coalition of the Willing in Tehran. Sarkozy won't finish his term if there are.

Sarkozy's ultimate goal is to maintain a strong friendship with the US. Western Europe and the US need to get over the bickering and nonsense and become united in the common cause of strengthening our economies and protect ourselves from some upcoming rivals.... (the russians and China) Sarkozy sees beyond Bush. (He is leaving in a little over a year) He like his European counterparts are looking to forge stronger and more prosperous relations in a Post-Bush era.

Apparently diplomacy is now a "ridiculous" concept in the eyes of some nowadays? Of course its a positive thing. The relationship between France and the US was strained virtually the entire time Charac was in power. How can having a friendship with another nation be considered "ridiculous"?...

I think it's great that the French elected a new President that actually likes America and wants to reform their socialist system.

Very cool! It is about time Europe started to see the light.

France and the rest of Europe have not prospered at all during the economic boom of the last several years because they have had liberal leaders that have made the governments too powerful and caused the citizenry to revolt. Now Europe is electing more conservative leaders who will expand the economy and create more jobs by becoming partners and not enemies of the U.S.
