I've just put out 5 full bags. Next door only seem to put out 2 and we have 1 less child than them. I recycle everything I can but seem to still throw out a lot. If the government brings in the "pay as you throw" I'm stuffed!

How many in your house and how many bags please?

Ours tends to vary from week to week.

Most of the food scraps end up in my garden (good fertilizer), but the number of bags seems to relate to how many closets we cleaned that week!!!!!

i have 3 kids and recycle what I can, I put out 4-5 bags a week, never more than 5.
I know I could get this down if i wanted to, as the bags are not really full.
My neighbours who are just a couple with no kids, seem to put out more than me though!

Three Adults - 1 bag (that is 2/3's full) every week, and a box of recycling every 2 weeks.

We don't have black bags we have wheelie bins and we're only allowed to put as much rubbish in it so that the lid closes. If you're struggling, remove any unwanted packaging in the supermarket and leave it there for them to get rid of - I try to buy fruit and veg and anything else I can loose. And then I leave any unwanted packaging in the supermarket because I think it is the supermarket's responsibility to ensure that we're not buying products that only measure 1 cm but has 2 meters of packing around it. If we all did this the message would soon get across to them.

My son is like the old guy who was on Life of Grime..Mr.Trebus,he loves to bring home rubbish,he says it will come in handy! I worry that when he grows up he wont be able to get through his front door for old newspapers!
There are 3 of us in this house and we put about 4-5 bags out a week!

We generate about 5-6 bags of trash per week, one or two is recycling.... If you STILL find yourself throwing away too much have you thought about donating unused items or Freecycling them? Freecycle.org is a great site for giving and receiving FREE items... Good luck

i have my bin emptied every two weeks, i bought 3 boxes, one for glass, one for paper and one for tins, my garden (or green bin) got full to the brim in the summer and was emptied every 2 weeks, my regular bin has about 3 bags a fortnight as i take stuff upto recycling point, its easy for me as i drive but i can see how some peeps are angry bout it. but if you have a big family of 4+ you can get bigger wheelie bins off council.
