I would use wireless if I were you, it's much easier than wires trailing all over the house. Sky are doing a really good offer right now if you live in the U.K!

You will definitely need a router rather than just an ASDL modem if you want to share a broadband Internet connection. Most routers you can buy or get from your ISP have the modem built in. There's not much more I can say about wired v wireless set ups, but one thing you may be interested in is a system you can use which uses the mains wires in your house. It uses an adaptor which you plug into your router using a standard network cable and then into a mains socket near the router. On the remote PC you plug in the other adaptor using another network cable and put it into a mains socket near your other PC. It sounds crazy and also dangerous, but it isn't and really does work. Your second PC will now be connected to your router via the wiring in your house. Certainly worth thinking about. You can buy the adaptors from EBay. I hope this helps.

either way wired or wireless you will need a router, now wireless router are not that much more expensive than a wired one, so lets say you go wireless. You can still connect up to four using wires and have about 30 wireless, i would use wired for the pc next to the modem (that is where the router will be) and the rest wireless, also remember long ethernet cable could cost you about £10 for that you could get a wireless car for £15 and none of the hassle of laying wires.

You can do either. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

With wireless, as stated before, you won't need to run cable all across the house. Plus, ethernet cables long enough to stretch 100 or more feet tend to be expensive and hard to find.

However, wired internet also has some advantages. The connection will tend to be faster (depending on how fast your connection already is) with wired internet. You won't have to worry as much about securing your network from random people passing by.

Either way, you will probably have to pick up a router or switch to connect all your computers to. With a wireless network, you may also need to pick up wireless adaptors for each of the computers.

Cost-wise, wired internet would probably be cheaper. You would buy a switch or router (<$50) plus two ethernet cables (a short one which will probably come with the router, and a long one, which may cost as much as $30 or $40).
Wireless internet would cost you $50 or so for the router plus two wireless adaptors at $20 each.

Getting a wireless router would cause you to need a wireless network card for the second PC which can be expensive...

More often than not the pc already has a network connection...so I would just have someone run a cable....

If you have a highspeed connection most DSL and cable modems have a connection for a second pc...

price wise id say run a cable...
if cost is not an object then go wireless. and also let me borrow $100....LOL

You can get a wireless router. Or, if you have an extra cable, and if your modem allows more than one computer to use it ie: has space for more wires, then you could. but I doubt that. You can switch between the 2 PCs but otherwise you will need a wireless router.

You don't need wireless but it is easier to manage if you have wireless. An additional benefit is that if you get another computer or printer that you want to add it will b simple.

However I would advise that you secure your wireless network with both MAC address filtering and a password.

If you do get a wireless router you can also control things such as when the children can connect to the Internet, this gives you peace of mind that they aren't online when they should be sleeping.

Good luck

depends on your router , most hubs let you have more than 1 pc connected . Wireless would be the easier solution , no messy cables .

It depends on if you're more comfortable running wire or setting up network configurations. Wire is more stable, secure, and just requires plugging things in.

If you get wireless, you really really really should encrypt it, and you may have signal issues requiring detailed configuration.

Both options will require that you get a router.
