It now looks like the Mets are back in the mix for A-Rod. I am not asking if you like A-Rod, I would only like to know if you believe the Mets would be a better team with him.

Pink Angel: I really believe you would pay good money to see him in Boston also. Fenway would be electrifying with A-Rod there.

M.M.12: I happen to agree with you but you have a lot of haters out there that would give you an argument.

They may be strong defensively but you sacrifice some options offensively.
It may be somewhat tougher since he never played in the National League and while he faced some NL pitchers during interleague, he will now be facing National League pitching most of the time and traditionally, NL pitching has been stronger than AL pitching.
You definitely get power out of A-Rod, but, assuming that A-Rod would play shortstop, you would lose a base stealer out of Reyes.
The only way I can be convinced that getting A-Rod makes sense is that you trade Reyes to get Johan Santana from the Twins since the Mets are in DESPERATE NEED for pitching (starting and bullpen)

Sure the Mets would be better with A-Rod.
Having said that, they already have a solid left side of the infield (Wright, Reyes) and his acquisition would require one of the three to switch positions. A-Rod can effectively handle the NY media.
However he would have to adjust to the NL which is completely different from the AL. And until he performs on a post-season stage, he will always be known as a player who can't handle the pressure...no matter how great of a baseball player he is.

Of course they would. Don't you think that if they had a 50HR guy in the middle of their lineup last year we'd never have heard about the September collapse? The problem is there's no place to put him, as I wouldn't move Wright to first (What do you do with Delgado who still has something like $20 million left on his contract anyway?) and certainly wouldn't put Reyes back at second, where he was a disaster. If ARod can play the outfield, sign him up.

I dont think they would be with him, Yes he is an offensive superstar and supremely talented, but he is a distraction on a team with some good character and he brings a bagload of press coverage on every little thing he says and does. I dont think the distractions are worth the production. A-Rod would be good on a team that needs a good box office draw. Plus A-Rod would be a defensive liability unless you plopped him in the outfield. I dont like the choice and I dont think they would be better with him.

I'd have to say no for two reasons: (1) In 2006, not only did they make it to the post-season without A-Snob, they managed to stay in the hunt longer (Yeah, I know they lost to St. Louis, but at least they advanced, which the Yankers failed to do!)
(2) No matter how many times the Yankers advanced to the post-season, A-Snob would forget to show up when the team needed him most. Regular season, he's got skills, I'll admit that much. But he keeps forgetting that post-season is another challenge entirely, and if the Mets want to keep progressing in the coming years, they don't need someone like that.

I don't think the mets would be a better team with arod b/c they have to pay all this money. They already have a star third basemen (david wright.) and they cant get rid of david wright! Arod is older, and even though people think he is all good... well he is good but he does choke alot. I dont think the mets should get him b/c and they wont become a better team with him because arod is not clutch (#5 is more clutch.)
This is why i think the mets shouldn't get the choker arod

I think they would be better with A-Rod, Any team (including the all century team) would be better with A-Rod....... However the Mets would be better off taking the 30-35 million a year he is asking and invest in a boatload of young power pitchers!!

Did you really just ask if you add the best player in baseball to a team if he'll make that team better? Move David Wright to 1st, lose Delgado and you only have the best infield in all of baseball. I'd say he'd make them better yes.

i dont think so because there pitching is awful and its not getting better and you cant win games without pitching(look at the yankees) and then you would have to move david wright over to shortstop or second base and that takes a long time to adapt to a new position and jose reyes would have to move to second if arod wanted shortstop back. so no pitching and positon changes it better to stick with what offense you have and get som good pitching.

Yes.
Talent-wise, there is not a better player in the game right now. I think that he'd make ANY team better. He's 5-tool. I wish my team could afford him.
