and refuses to say that war in mideast and threat of war with Iran is a major contributor? why does he prefer to say that the blame is that we are addicted to oil, but yet has no plan in place or proposed to put us on a serious path to oil alternatives?

Because he sure as heck isn't going to accept responsiblity for any of problems he's contributed to.

Well in great part it is supply and demand. The new big consumers of oil are Red China and India and their consumption is affecting price. However, contributing factors are the Iraq war where Iraq is producing far less oil than before Saddam was overthrown and fear of further wars in the middle east such as with Iran or other states contributes to uncertainty which affect price. Even natural disasters have an affect on the price of oil. Also, our consumption of oil has not gone down but does continue to rise. So Bush is correct about that. We need to get the Arab oil monkey off our back. That means using small four cyclinder cars, electric cars and increase our use of public transportation. However, I believe old fashion American ingenuity will solve our oil dependency problem if and when we want it solved.

Because the price of oil is strictly affected by supply and demand. the war in Iraq has not affected oil production.
Threat of war with Iran is not a solely Bush issue. The threat for action is greater from Israel and France at this point.
Bush has repeatedly called for more US drilling in the Artic, and offshore, and has been consistently blocked by Democrats. He has also proposed increased coal usage, again blocked in Congress. The only alternative to come out of Congress is Ethanol, a very uneconomical option to oil, which produces as many carbons as oil, and requires 4 gallons of oil to process 5 gallons of ethanol.
India and China are using 500% as much oil as they did 5 years ago. In another 5 years, China will be using more oil than the US.
That is why its a supply and demand issue.

I know many would like to think he has control of the price of oil but he doesn't. In fact, he isn't the first president to have oil hit record highs, nor will he be the last. When you accuse the president of having no plan in place or proposed legislation to deal with oil alternatives, you have to remember he is a lame duck with an opposition (Democratic) led congress. Also, do you remember the type of response he got when he wanted to do something about social security? When he does have an idea, the other side (not just democrats) simply use them as spring boards to accuse rather than work with and create better ideas.

Because it largely is.
There are other factors.
Don't tell me, let me guess... your Bush Derangement Syndrome tells you... it's George Bush's fault.
Right?

What do YOU say it is?
Speculation on Middle East tensions?
RIIIIIGHT...

If the Liberals would allow for short-term drilling in the Gulf and in Alaska while we develop an energy-program on a Manhattan Project scale... we'd be fine... but they don't want their 'view' to be ruined. Ask Ted Kennedy about shooting down the proposed wind farm off Martha's Vineyard and the Cape... because it would obstruct his view.
If Jimmy Carter had done this when the crisis reared its ugly head in the 70s, we'd HAVE the hydrogen cell cars perfected by now!
But hey, let's blame Bush...

OPEC sets the price of oil buy deciding the supply, we are slave to their decisions, we can offset international oil prices by producing more domestic oil, but environmentalists block this at every turn, a side note,

we could solve most of our non transportation energy problems with the building of 400 clean and safe power plants with no emissions no damming of rivers but the same people who wont let us drill have decided that nuclear is a bad word, even though every aircraft carrier and submarine in the u.s. navy uses this same power with no negative consequences

Well it seems to me that it is the other party that doesn't want to drill for more oil in the states, Alaska and the Antarctic. They also appose putting the windmills in their backyards and a lot of other resources. It is the attitude to go ahead and use all the resources but put the bad parts in someone elses backyard.

Some of it is supply and demand. India and China have both had huge increases in the number of car sales. China is 2nd or 3rd largest car market now. We still hate small cars in the US and more and more people are moving to the suburbs and farther from work.

Some is middle east problems.

Nobody wants to pay for the development of alternative fuels. I don't see a line of people wanting to pay $200k for a Civic with a fuel cell. Gas is still cheaper here than most of the rest of the world so its still affordable.

Some of it is oil company greed. They make record profits almost every quarter.

He is being technically accurate while avoiding the whole truth as ANY good politician will do. The price of oil is high because of worries over future supplies ....exacerbated by conditions in the ME.

You need to do some research and get yourself educated on this subject. It is the Democrates that 'refuse' to drill for oil in America! It is the Democrates that block any legislature put before them to drill and to build refineries. Find out why Polesti, Reid, Kennedy and Kerry, always vote against us helping ourselves. Could it be that they have 'stocks' in Oil Companies and it would hinder their off-shore accounts where they launder their millions$$$$$$$$? Do some research, my friend, everything isn't as it seems. And by the way, all 'rich people' are not your enemy. Count your blessings, because if one of the Democrates gets in - they're gone!
