Which sequence lists organisms in the order of producer, consumer, and decomposer?

a. earthworm, algae, bird
b. algae, earthworm, bird
c. bird, earthworm, algae
?% d. algae, bird, earthworm

I but D. as the answer but I got it wrong... but yet shouldn't it be right?

Out of the answers listed, the only one possibly right is D. However, none of the organisms listed are decomposers. A decomposer is supposed to secrete enzymes into the environment and absorb the digested nutrients. The earthworm eats with a mouth just like most animals do.

Only B and D start with producers, and a bird certainly isn't a decomposer.

The correct order might be algae, fish, water mold.

Algae is a producer, since it does not take in energy other than through photosynthesis, that means it is on the bottom of the food chain as well as helping produce the needs of many animals. The earthworm would be next because it has a preditor, the bird, while dirt and smaller organisms are all that the earthworm consumes.
When you get these types of questions, I have found it easier to think of how many preditors the organism has and how many organisms are its prey...
I would have answered b.
