Wood trees.. Young saplings that could be bent and shaped into the shape of a longhouse. Also cedar and elmbark were used...

It was a type of Log Cabin... made of logs...

Extended families would live all together in one house...

I think the Shotgun style house is derived from this style... where you have no hallways, just room upon room, so you could effectively fire a shotgun through the front door and the bullet would emerge from the back door.
