If the government were in charge of regulating music and other art (comedy, paintings, more) they could decide what got made, and only positive messages would be released to the public.

If anything got released that offended anyone, the government could do mandatory recalls of the music CDs and destroy the master copies of the comedy performance, etc., so that nobody could be offended by it again.

Sounds extreme but could be possible and might be easier and better than you think.

PraiseBob:
The government would decide. We elect the government, so it would be all of us.

lb_centaur:
We could make it so five people would have to be offended instead of just one, this way it would cut down on the abuse of individual power.

It's not just extreme - it's in direct violation with the United States Constitution.

Honestly, your suggestion is shocking! How can you call yourself an American, but at the same time, suggest that we take away the rights that we've been granted?

Censorship contradicts the First Amendment to the Constitution. Your suggestion is un-American, and counterintuitive to the way our country works.

Spoken like a true socialist.

So... who do you think should be in charge of deciding what is offensive or not? The Pope? Don King? The Grand Dragon of the KKK? You personally?

Last time I checked all entertainment devices like CD players and Televisions all have a couple of controls on them. One allows you to change the content, the other allows you to turn them off. Further, entertainers don't stick around for very long if people do not voluntarily listen to their product.

Sounds like a terrible idea. So if just ONE PERSON got offended, all outstanding copies and master tapes get destroyed? Kinda shifts a lot of abusive power to individuals.

Are you kidding? It doesn't matter what you say or do, someone will be offended. Did you ever read George Orwells book 1984? You need to. Maybe it would give you a better idea of where this could go.

Sounds like a total violation of many things in the constitution and bill of rights.
It sounds like that one person trying to get Harry Potter banned in GA.
Makes no sense to me.

If the government did that then I'd leave the country. I believe in the freedom of speech.
