Well for starters.............tell us how old you are. That will go a long way in the friendly experts here on Yahoo! Answers guiding you in the most appropriate direction.

First off, you're going to have to work on your turns and backward skating, also I'd say learn to get up quickly from the knuckles of your hand instead of the palm (I was taught that in juniors to avoid possibly losing fingers if someone skates too close). There are plenty of books that outline puckhandling, shooting, and other stickwork, read those and practice. Also, it wouldn't hurt at all to talk to the beginner coaches to see what drills they can recommend (or if they're very nice, maybe even give you some one on one instruction to avoid being seen with a bunch of squirts all the time).

Once you have a lot of those down decently, then you need to compete against others. At this point two things happen: 1) the game gets a lot faster, so be prepared to catch up until you're used to it, and 2) you're going to have to swallow your pride and compete against younger kids. Eventually you'll be able to move up to kids closer to your age.

Finally, be patient and expect to practice a LOT!!!! The older you get the tougher it is to train your body to be able to move like second nature. I've been playing since I was 6, but never played seriously until I started juniors at 14, and I had to work 10x as hard as my little brother. But I was able to parlay that into 3 league titles (one at Tier II, before they made the USHL tier I), and a college scholarship, so it's not impossible. Good luck and happy pucking!

How old are you? Best thing to do is to get a power skating coach too teach you technique and then you can practicethe techniques at public sessions or free ice time. It is important to always practice in all your equipment. You can do plyometrics to build up the muscles to be a stronger skater. Check out Nike Bauer hockey website for tyraining tips. Good programs. Good luck

I have a question for you.

Do you happen to know that there is such a thing as punctuation in the English language? What you typed is impossible to read.

join a house league. as long as you can skate, you can play. go to stick and shoots to work on your skills. most rinks have them you just go out and you can work on your skating and shooting and stuff
