It will need to be cleaned and tuned, so that person could show you how to thread it. If you can, find a class at your local adult-ed or in a sewing shop. they can show you how to choose patterns, buy fabric, cut out your pattern and the different sewing techniques. If you need to strike out on your own, arm yourself with a copy of "Sewing for Dummies".

get a how-to book to learn the basic things, like threading the needle, attaching the bobbin, etc. since it's an old versian u might have to get professional help or the help of an older sewer for the details that aren't explained in the sewing books printed more recently. good luck!

Ask one of your relatives/friends/neighbours or take a class. It's easier to learn from a person than a book or website, though youtube might be helpful. Ask at your local sewing shop for classes.

Put an ad in your church bulletin. Some little lady would love to teach you in exchange for your company.
But first, get the machine into a sewing shop for a tune-up.

When in doubt read the instructions. Clean out the bobbin case. Buy good thread. Breakage sux. Go to a fabric store, and soak up what you can. Find a little old lady - she might need the company.

Suggest you try to find an evening class in your home town to start and make your own clothes. Look through second hand book stores to find how to books from the fifties and sixties when this type of hobby was popular.

There are loads of videos on Youtube. You could take a class or find a seamstress in your area willing to tutor you.
