Wasn't he a catholic though?

I'm very confused, but this history essay has to be in tomorrow.

I seriously doubt that Fawkes wanted the Catholics to be blamed for the Gunpowder Plot. After all, he himself was Catholic and probably felt that eliminating James I would cause an easing of the strictures against his coreligionists.
