The seed pod does indeed explode. You can wrap your hand around it and catch them.

all impatiens root easily in water: 4-8 inch cutting, strip lower leaves (if left in water they rot and stink) put in clear container of water. You'll see roots in 4-7 days. They'll live happily in water for months or you can pot them and keep inside until spring. (Not cold tolerant below 40 degrees)

Yes, dust like seeds, but most impatiens are hybrids so you would likely not get a similar plant. You might instead take cuttings of the plants, they root well and do fine inside during the winter--- ready made plants for spring. Have done that several times.

Impatietns seed pods are aptly named as they explode and scatter seeds everywhere. If you want to harvest the seeds, put a small plastic bag over the pod before you touch it. Once the pod is enclosed in the bag grab the pod, if it is mature it will burst and you'll catch the seeds in the bag. You need to pick the seeds before a freeze.

Yes they have seed pods. When the flower withers and dies there is a seed pod left behind. One must leave the seed bod to dry and mature on the plant. You must watch to pick the pod and save the seeds before it bursts on its own and reseeds naturally.
