ALL my friends, including my bf and his friends are into acting and singing. I like to sing, but i am not very good. I think i would like to act too, but am WAYYY too nervous to try. My school has auditions for they play, and they are not manditory if you just want to be in the chorus. well, all my friends are good at acting and i got too nervous, so i didn't stay to try to get a part even if i wanted too. I don't want to be embarassed in front of the people who i care about because i can't act and they can.........what should i do to get over this??...or...any advise in general??????

Work backstage for this show. It's just as enjoyable, you'll be around your friends during rehearsals, and if you find yourself thinking "Heck, I could read those lines better than _____ is doing", you'll have the confidence to try out yourself next time.

Don't beat yourself up; you're supposed to be having fun, you know.

As Helene says, backstage can be as much fun. You don't have to learn lines, you are still part of a production and still doing a valid role. But why not try for the chorus. You will be amongst others, not in the sole spotlight. It is not nearly as frightening singing with other people as it is on your own. Who knows, you might be better than you think. If you do end up backstage, you could always join in the singing off stage. (It is fun - I have done it in the past, and I'm not an actor!)

Good Luck.

Join an amateur drama group. They are always looking for people who like to help out backstage. You will make friends and you can pick up tips from older people who have been doing this for years. Sometimes you may even be asked to just take on a non-speaking part. All this will build up your confidence.

Sometimes when we are with our own peer group it can make you even more shy, with people you dont know you may even shine. A local drama group really will welcome you and they are usually very friendly people who are only too glad to meet new younger members.

Go on, go for it girl.....good luckxxx
