The only people that can settle the argument at night by turning off the lights is the deaf couple.

What Helen was trying to say was 'light' is a symbol for the 'Insight'. We need to dig deeper to see all things non-superficial in life.

She knew that a book was not just its cover. She was given up on by most, until Annie came into her life. Together, they explored a world that Helen could not visually see, or auditory hear. Helen learned to talk through breath and lips and things we take for granted.
She had long been locked into a lonely world and finally broke out. She knew enough that you had to dig a little deeper to gain the substance of a thing.

She was a very intuitive person. She would have to be to be able to read emotions without being able to see or hear. Locked in her own world, it was left to her mind to depict what the rest of the world around her was like.

And yet, she still endeavored to learn what we think we know.
What a struggle it must have been for her to understand us.
After all, we are the limited ones.
