Motorbikes. How long do you have to be insured on a 125cc bike before you can be insured on a 250cc bike?

before you can get a licence to drive a 250cc? do you have to do a test? even if you have a full licence?

I'm not sure what you mean ! If you have passed your test and hold a full m/c licence, then you can decide on which bike you want, and ring around for quotations for insurance.

The shorter time you have been riding bikes, then the higher the premium, I would think. But you should certainly be able to get a quote.

The longer you have been riding = more experience + higher age = lower quote.

You will need to take a motorcycle test and if you pass then you can go onto larger bikes.I think all 125s are restricted to 12 hp
but unrestricted ones are anywhere between 12 and 30 hp.

Even if you have a full driving license for a car you are still restricted to a 125 bike untill you pass the bike test,once
you have passed then you can jump on any bike you like.

It's license not insurance that makes the difference, and as with most things - it depends...

There are two types of full motorcycle licence:

Light (A1) - if you took you test on a bike between 75cc and 125cc (restricts you to 125cc and 11kW).

Standard (A) - if you took you test on a bike between 120cc and 125cc capable of 60mph. Restricts you to 25kW (33bhp) for two years. After that you can have any bike.
(The restriction isn't cc it's power - you can get a bigger bike, have it restricted then derestricted after 2 years.)

If you reach 21 before your 2 years are up you can take a further test on a bike of at least 35kW to ride any bike.

If you're over 21 you can do direct access - take your test on a bike at least 35kW and ride any bike straight away.

(A full car licence let's you ride a moped (up to 50cc 30mph) if you got it before 2001)
