visit your local b&q and garden shops. winter is the best time to buy evergreen foliage, so get your plants soon !
even asda / tesco's little plant centers have some good greenery pots right now.
look for HARDY or HARDIES plants in b&q - they come in variety of shapes and sizes colours from white to light green to dark green with diff colour flowers.
also buy some PERENIALS and place diff pots all together.
perenials and hardies are evergreen and with the right arrangement your little concrete space will look lush and lovely. make sure you water them once a week atleast and keep putting fresh compost once a month atleast and they will give you not only greenery but seasonal colours!
you can also get good quality 'heather' these days. you can get painted heather which will then give green leaves out of red / purple etc, which looks quite nice !
good luck and happy gardening !

Hey why don't u try planting some ivy in the pots, if you go for the types with bigger leaves u'll find you get some fairly quick cover especially if you use some trellis or wires to help it climb. Another option may be a fig...these look nice and lush on the wall. I'll hav a think of som more! Good Luck

Ficus trees grow well in containers and will get tall enough to give the eye a break from the concrete wall. If you plant jasmine with a trellis behind it, eventually it will spread and also give cover to your wall. I also grow succulents which stay green all year long, but I'm in zone 9 where we rarely get a hard freeze. Cypress and pines stay evergreen and can also be grown in pots (though it does limit their growth in the long term.
Why not add some statuary, a little concrete bench or a water feature for interest among your container garden? I had a very unattractive view on my condo patio enclosure and used a combination of container plants, statuary, a fountain and a little garden bench to break things up and add interest.

I have a tiny garden at the front of a back-to-back terrace house. When I last counted I had 152 different plants in it!! The best ones to grow in pots - large or small - are:
Box (Evergreen)
small Maple trees
Fuchsia
Grasses
Lilies
Hydrangea
Hosta
Dwarf Conifers (Evergreen)
Skimmia (Evergreen)
Pieris (Evergreen)
Spring bulbs
Ivy (Evergreen)
This list is virtually endless but all the above are easily available and most come in variations of leaf colour and flower. I have also grown a jasmine up the wall from a large post - there you have perfume as well!!

Ivy is not to fast a grower but it is green all year and you can get different colours in the leaves (variegated).you could get plants that flower at different times in pots that you move to the back when they are done (dafffs ,lillies, etc)sweet peas provide a good all covering during the summer right up to late autumn

Hostas!! They are green year round and some grow quite large and are leafy and spreading out the arms uses up space that the pot doesn't cover. They are beautiful plants!

I would also suggest ivy, if you can keep it controlled.
Also look at Evergreens: There are many hardy, beautiful varieties. And inquire at a local nursery: Someone there is sure to have recommendations.
Good luck!
