I'd let them use my cell phone. I've done this before. I was on the train and a muslim lady with 2 kids asked to use my phone. For one I knew she wasn't going to run off with it and secondly she was nearly in tears, clearly she needed that call.
I would NEVER be racist to anyone, but let's just be clear... I have no tolerance for people who come into this country and then complain about it non-stop.

The question really is, how likely would you be to do this for a member of your own race? Would you be more likely to do this for a young teen or an adult? For a woman or a man? For someone that dressed nice or dressed like a bum/hippie?

You first need to establish this "control setting" before you try to compare to a different race.

For example, I'd be reluctant to loan my phone to any stranger. I'd want to hear the whole story and be convinced it was a genuinely urgent need, not a scam or some teenage drama. I'd be far more likely to help a teen or child than an adult (who presumably has other resources at their command). But I don't think the person's race would significantly impact my decision.

I don't think you can judge if someone is racist or not just by this instance. If I were on a regular street d-town during the day or in a bad neighborhood at night could determine who, if anyone, would use my phone. Not to mention, I have had a friend lose his phone by someone"borrowing it to call home" from the street. So, no, unless they were on fire, no one I dont know is going to use my mobile.

Yes, I would, and have. I've also let homeless people use my cell phone and stepped far enough away to give them a bit of privacy to do so. A cell phone is a thing. The worse that could happen is that it gets taken, and I get another. People are more important.

The greatest racial issue you could come up with is whether or not people would let others use their cell phones?

HOW LAME!

P.S. NO ONE is using my cell phone. I don't care what race you are. Get your own damned phone like the rest of us.

black, white, yellow, brown, green, etc, it wouldnt matter, cell phones are a very personal item and i wouldnt lend it to anyone that i didnt know, i wud never let a stranger borrow it, instead i would show them where they can make a free call or point out a pay-phone.

I wouldn't care if it was a sweet old lady with a flower in her hat, I wouldn't let ANYONE use my cell.

I WOULD, however, call for them if their car broke down or some other emergency.
In fact, I have done that twice.

I don't let strangers touch my blackberry, period. There's not any racism on my part just confidential information that I can be held responsible for if it got in the wrong hands.
