I am cataloging my uncle's CD collection, over 400 cd's. He wants me to use a spreadsheet and include the artist, cd title, and each song name. he wants to be able to print an alphabetical list of the artists with a slot to put in which cd slot in his 400 cd changer they are located in. he also wants to be able to print out an alphabetical list of the songs and be able to write down which slot they are in.

am i able to do this with a simple spreadsheet? Help!!

Most definitely. I think you have the column headers right...Once you have all of the data entered, it's a pretty simple step to do the sorting.

First of all, if you select all, you can simply sort (>data>sort) on any of the columns in question. If your uncle decides he wants an alphabetical list by cd name, or any other of the other items you have showing in your column headers, just pick that as the column to sort on, and the work is done.

You can also use filters. Go to >data>filters>auto filter, and this will insert little arrows in the column headers, which will allow you to use each one as a drop-down box. You can simply choose one of the existing options, or use a custom filter that will let you see more than one of the options at a time.

You should be able to. Make the spreadsheet with the headings you want (artist, cd title, song title, CD Player Slot). Then just fill in everything but the CD player slot. Once you have all that info in, save it and you should be able to do a sort by any of the headings to alphabetize them. Then he will just have to write in which CD slot they are in.

You can probably get more function out of an Access database but that would take a little longer to set up.

You can use Excel to accomplish this task

Use columns for artist, cd title, and song name.
When you are done with your listing, simply sort the cd title column in ascending order.

Yep, if you have Excel, you enter all your info, click the top left square to highlight all, then go up to the data tab, Go to add filter. This should add a drop down to all of your titles. From there you can sort each field ascending or descending. Good Luck!

But what you require , does not need the knowledge of VB, and you can do it without any trouble.
