No it a mid-high latitude biome. Tiaga = Russian word for forest.

Its the largest biome in the world and covers MANY landscapes.

It can be. Even mountains on the equator can have a zone of taiga. They just have to be high enough to be too cold for deciduous trees but not so cold that trees can't survive. Mostly, it is related to latitude (and therefore temperature). Generally, you find it between deciduous or mixed forest and tundra.
