I don't like the newer version, it freezes my computer up for some reason. There's a button at the top that allows you to go back to the older version, but me and my mom have to share this computer so we're constantly logging in and out of our emails, and every time you log in/out of your email you have to click the older version button again!

Is there anyway to keep it on the older version permanently?

The second poster was onto something, but didn't elaborate. Go to Gmail's older version and create a Bookmark or Favorite using that page.

The link should read like this:
http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1

not this:
http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2

ui = User Interface

only thing you can try is to make a shortcut to the page (with
the old version [link]) and see if it reloads when you click it
