The surgery is difficult. I had it in August '07. It took nearly 5 years before I was approved for the surgery through my insurance company. Although that is way longer than it takes most people. There are requirements you must fulfill, such as following a diet for 6 months, psychological evaluations and nutritional counselling. After the surgery, for a few weeks, you will wonder if you did the right thing because nothing seems to go right. But so far it is the best thing I have ever done for my body.

I don't know why, but there are people who will recommend that you diet and exercise and take meds. If you are overweight, you have probably done that 20 times already. You lose and then put on more weight. This is not about lack of willpower, because you will need that after the surgery, it is about making a lifetime commitment. After surgery you will have a diet you will need to follow FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Do not take this lightly.

Some people have some major problems after the surgery for a while. That is due to their surgeon's abilities. Research your doctor well. This is major surgery and with that comes the chance of death.

I belong to a Yahoo group called weight loss surgery friendship & support. You will need some sort of support system set up as you go through the steps to getting the surgery and after the surgery to help you cope and to answer the million questions that will pop up along the way. Please join us for more info, if you would like. We are very chatty, as we love to share out experiences. Good luck.

I had the gastric banding in may of this year. I do not regret it at all. With my surgery you lose weight a little slower than the gastric bypass. I love it I have more energy and I can fit my clothes. When I got the surgery I was 280 and today I am 239 and still losing. I would say this was the best move for me. If you are willing to change your life for the better I say go for it. Good luck. yes I do recommend as long as it's your decision and you are doing this for the right reasons.

I've known a couple people to do it. I haven't and would never consider it. One person nearly died after surgery. She regrets it now because she has worse health now than before the surgery. Another person I know says it was both the best and worst thing she's ever done. She never goes out to eat with friends or family because it would be a waste of money since she can only eat a couple bites at a time. If she eats too much, she's in pain and sick for hours. And of course the surgery part was absolute hell! Only one person I know has had a good experience with the whole thing.

I would never recommend this to anyone EVER.

I have taken care of dozens of patients who have had gastric bypass, as well as a few friends. It works wonderful but is nothing to take lightly. It means a entire lifestyle change. Eating exactly what they tell you, exercising, etc. My friends have each lost over 120lbs. I would recommend this as a last resort. Seriously try Jenny Craig, walking, cutting calories, and stay with it! you can do it...

It’s an age old trick but vertical stripes really do stretch you out. The contrast of colour straight up and down splits your body in 50 %.

Don’t focus on your defects, spotlight your best bits. Small waist? Belt it in. Lovely bust? Lower the neckline. Nicely toned butt? Rock tight jeans. Sexy legs? Show ‘em off. It’s really that easy.

For sandwich-lovers, use spinach or swiss chard leaves rather then a wrap, skip the peel of cheese, and load through to the veggies.

Add cooked whole grains into a salad to increase the fiber and protein and make the meal feel as pleasing.

Walk to a co-worker's desk to chat as opposed to instant messaging.

In the mood for the hot meal? Make a big pot of veggie bean soup, divide into two-cup containers, and store inside freezer. Before bed, place a container inside fridge, then grab it before heading out the door in the morning.
