I really need some help. My paper is due today, and I need an example of a metaphor in order to finish the paper. Are one of these a metaphor? Thank you!

(If this is a metaphor, I don't know what is being compared!)

"On a park bench, alone, he sat dully watching a flock of perts: a semi-bird imported from Mars' two moons, capable of soaring flight, even against Earth's huge gravity."

"And this is bedrock in your psyche; this is a life-long childhood fantasy."

a metaphor are words comparing one object to another.
Example: The man is strong as an ox.
We know the man is not an ox, but we know that an ox is strong. We know the ox is strong and so is the man.

The first sentence is merely describing a flock of semi-birds from Mars. This is not a metaphor.

In the second sentence the word bedrock, means a solid hard rock area of ground that people would set a good foundation for a building. Like a well built house.
What it is saying is that life-long childhood fantasies are a strong foundation in the psyche.
Comparing fantasies to a bed rock is a metaphor.

Yeah, bedrock in your psyche. Bedrock is a metaphor for the bottom line., for what your psyche is built on. It's not literally rock! Hope this helps.
