This question stems from something my father told me about when Bill Clinton was either running for his first term or had just won it and was being asked questions from the audience. An aging hippie stood up to the microphone and uttered the question "So will you be like our Father?"
It's like democrats want government to be the daddy they never had or should have had to love and take care of them. They want 'daddy' to pay for them to go to the doctor, go to college, pay for their groceries, and then take any money they do earn because they're too child-like to make their own decisions with it.
If I wanted that I'd find the nearest trailer park and find a controlling and abusive husband.
I know this is normally referred to as a "Nanny state" where people want the government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave, but I think its more like wanting a father figure.

For people that continuously complain that republican politicians destroy the constitution, I don't think they've read it because no where in there(or the Bill of Rights) does it say that the government is responsible for making up for individuals' short comings.

Fairly Smart... My father was once a hippie as well, he was smart enough to eventually grow up and became an adult responsible for himself instead of blaming "The Man".

Liberals don't want to be responsible for their lives. They would just be happy with a small stipend so they could get drunk or stoned over the weekend as long as someone gave them a place to live, a job, health care, and food.
I remember this guy, it was in the debate in Richmond Virginia. And this pony tailed guy got a lot of applause.

Actually, it's more like the right wants the President to be their daddy.
9 out of the top 10 poorest states voted republican in the 2004 election. So, wouldn't you say that means that the RED states are supporting a nanny state just the same as the BLUE ones are?

C'mon, Welfare and government assistance spans both parties. Stop spewing your uninformed opinion in order to troll on others. By the way, trailer parks are associated with Republicans.

some may.... some probably do in both parties.
but going and talking about more tired propaganda isn't helping.
I only want the government to pick up the slack in areas where capitalism is clearly failing, like healthcare and education (in other nations)... and to give a helping hand every now and then to those that need it....
why can't republicans even bring up one example of where their ideas of a "capitalist utopia" exists in the whole world (clearly the U.S. has far too many socialist programs)? because your ideas are as failed and infantile as communism...
you can whine and cry about the "nanny state"... but in reality, these ideas seem to be working

I think so. The irony is that the govt will never be as good as a benevolent dad.
Politicians will continue to promise things and continue to take money and not deliver anything but more promises.
I referenced a hppie in one of my questions and got a violation notice so watch out - there's mad hippies out there.

Female Democrats have puff daddy issues sometimes.
Btw I attach the Constitution to every email I send. Since our
posts can be read without warrant anytime it's my own way of
being slick. Maybe somebody in White House reads it finally.

Why do conservatives think stupid anecdotes constitute evidence (of anything)? And, then, it always is followed by the mindless parroting of unsubstantiated politic-speak from some nitwit flunky of the education system like Rush or Hannity.
The “Daddy Complex” belongs to those conservatives that allow others to do their thinking for them because they are too ignorant to think for themselves and too intellectually lazy to care.

I believe that the answer is YES. I believe that women, as a block tended to vote democratic, before they actually had the ability to make their own money, because wherever the husband was falling down on the job, the government would pick up the slack.
Anyone who is unwilling or unable to take care of themselves will tend to vote for the democrats, because, even if it is a myth, they promise to provide jobs or welfare or health care, and just in general make life better.
These people don't care where the money comes from to do all these things, they just want them done, in addition, if the democrats can find someone to blame the bad luck of the non productive on, they don't even have to take responsibility for their non productivity.

dude u are so simpleminded, no offense. Why would you criticize people for caring about different issues? I think many democrats feel that republicans are out of touch with the regular folks. I also think the politicians don't really care about us at all, and Democrats and Republicans are both laughing at us, all the way to the bank. Yes, lets sit here and argue over whose party/god/country/race is better, while the real issues get ignored.

Would you agree that it is unjust for the government to put a thumb on the scale in FAVOR of Dumbya's "haves and have mores"?

Actually, I'm a liberal Democrat (and proud of it) and I can take care of myself just fine, thank you. I've never actually had a father and I've never wanted one, either. By the way, corporations get BILLIONS more in federal subsidies than poor individuals do.

I agree do Republicans have Gay issues. Since many have been caught and many that are still in the closet and it's a matter of time before they get caught are all republicans secretly gay.
Making broad generalizations and blanket statements won't ever be true.
