is it for real? I mean these people really think Earth is a flat disc surrounded by a 150 ft tall wall of ice... Where are they from? The Middle Ages?

Some people don't believe that man has ever been to the moon.
Some people can't grasp the concept of an infinite universe.
Some people believe in a God... some don't.
Some people aren't good in math... some are.
Some people really believe "reality shows" are real...
The point is that people can pretty much believe whatever they want... no matter how ridiculous others think it to be. Don't let it bug you.

People keep asking this. It probably started out as a joke, by persons who like to be contrary. For two centuries it has had name recognition as an absurd organization. The International Flat Earth Research Society was founded in 1800.
Many people who are approaching death and do not want relatives that they despise to inherit their hard earned money, will often write their will to give the money to the Flat Earth Society in order to make a personal statement. With this sort of semi-regular income, even a joke can become an on-going concern.

Unfortunately, it's COMPLETELY real. Most of their members believe that all spaceflight, human or unmanned, is fake. The widow of Mercury astronaut Gus Grissom is one of their most famous members. Honestly!
