Do you think you should pay more or less in taxes? If the government needs more money, should they just increase taxes to raise it, even if it is just a select group of people that have to pay more, or should they look for frivolous spendings and/or obsolete programs to cut first? And finally, if you were wealthy (or if you are), would you voluntarily pay more in taxes?

Yes I pay way more than my fair share. As a single guy in sales, when the economy is good I do well. I am not wealthy one bit. I drive a 5 year old car with 135,000 miles on it, live in a 2 bedroom ranch home with 800 square feet, and have one daughter who I pay child support for. I am constantaly watching what I spend every month just like everyone else.

So far this year I have paid almost $26,000 in taxes to the federal government alone. Being single, I get killed with taxes. I want some of my money back. I need a new car.

Ok here goes:

1. I pay way too much in taxes and should pay less
2. The government shouldn't need more money, but if they do, they should cut crap programs.
3. If I were rich (which I'm not) I would not voluntarily pay more in taxes.

What the government should do (which it never will, but just hear me out) is to make a flat income tax. About 15% for everyone. Then increase tax on goods & services. That way the more you buy/spend the more taxes you pay and vice-versa. By doing this, rich people get get taxed more (they buy/spend more) and no once can hide or shelter their money to avoid being taxed, like so many rich people do. Also all drug dealers, mobsters, etc...will get taxed too.

All these idiots who spout off about taxes do not have a clue. We already have socialism in the US. These liberals are either the Super Rich who would never feel any increase or the bottom who do not pay taxes or collect some government entitlement (a NY state employee pension that's worth millions over their lifetime). The rhetoric is brutal, and the facts are rarely printed. Wake up America! The dream is gone because of our GOVERNMENTS (Plural). They are raping us, and have been for decades. That money has not solved poverty. It's paid out as entitlements for votes. My liberal governor, Elliott Spitzer, and my Liberal Senator, Hillary Clinton are both MULTI-MILLIONAIRES, and they treat hard working people like ATM's. What does Spitzer know about making 90K a year? Because he eliminated the property tax credit for people in that bracket. The arrogance of these fools. It's all about the headline and power!

I pay more than enough in taxes. I'll reconsider whether to pay more when ALL Americans pay taxes...and we're talking income taxes here people, not sales tax on your malt liquor. And that's one of the reasons that I'm paying more than enough taxes. The taxes that I pay subsidize those who do not. In essence, I'm paying the taxes for those who don't have to and these Americans are considered 'equal' citizens to those of us who subsidize their non-contribution to the operation of the government.

As to the second part of your question, congress has NEVER looked to spending. If I am spending too much and can't get a raise to cover my expenses, I cut my spending, starting with the least essential. Government doesn't do this. As far as they are concerned, all spending is essential because every penny of that spending goes to someone who now depends on it. We have to change that. We should require that if congress feels it must raise taxes by X amount, they must also cut spending by 'X' amount. Otherwise, it's meaningless to me.

I pay way to much in taxes, and no they should not raise them any more. Here is a plan they should quit giving themselves a pay raise every year, oh and then how about not spending 5 million to study the sexual habits of horse flies, 80 million for a bridge to nowhere in Alaska, 7 million to study why 4 packs of cigerattes are worse than 3 packs of cigerattes, etc.

I can keep my checkbook balanced politicians should be able to do the same.

I think we are being taxed to death. I think that we should abolish the IRS, and go to a sales tax that is split between the feds and the state of residence, and all other taxes should be abolished.
If this didn't raise enough money, then cut programs, and let the government workers, who are notoriously inefficient, get real jobs.

I pay more than enough, thanks. About 20% of my salary goes to payroll tax, and then there's the personal property tax, the real estate property tax... yeah, we pay enough. Cut the worthless programs first and save some money before asking me to pay more. And if we were rich, I would certainly pay more taxes without a problem.

We pay too much. And the left always answers that we have to. How about cutting spending?

I think anyone who would like to pay more should by all means do so. But for those on the left who would like everyone to pay more for their percieved purposes it is patently self righteous.

I have no problem paying taxes or even having taxes raised...as long as it goes to helping people, making this country better, etc. I do NOT like my tax dollars being wasted, especially in this war.

I don't want to pay more taxes, who does? But how will the 9.08 trillion dollar National Debt get paid off? It increases 1.4 billion dollars per day.
