NO. The Pats are playing a much harder schedule than the 72 Dolphins. The Pats are playing all conference division winners from a year ago plus the NFC East. There could be 4 or 5 teams from the Pats schedule that have 10 or more wins. The 72 Dolphins best regular season foe had just 8.

Not at all.
If Shula believes that, then he ought to negotiate a two-fer and paste the other asterisk next to his own undefeated team.
He was still the coach of the Baltimore Colts at the end of the 1969 season, when then-Miami owner Joe Robbie approached him and signed Shula to a contract. The NFL charged the Dolphins with tampering and awarded their first-round pick to the Colts.
Of course there could be some back story at play here beyond Shula's interest in preserving the unique greatness of that Dolphins team.
It starts, naturally, with Belichick. One of the Pats coach's closest friends and chief protégés is Nick Saban, who took over the Dolphins from 2005-06, ran them into the ground, fled in a heap of lies only to replace Shula's own son, Mike, at Alabama.
There is also New England's 21-game win streak over the course of the 2003 and '04 seasons that some Patriots players tried to equate to the Dolphins 17-0 season, which Shula at that point claimed wasn't the same.
The facts are the facts, the timeline is the timeline, no matter how Shula wants to spin it.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS GOOD--------------Asterisk? Are you just a complete flipping Idiot, or do you have to try to be this dumb,
For all of the "they cheated" idiots. The camera on the field of the now 1-8 jets was removed between the 7-8 minute mark of the first quarter. So enough about that.........The teams have no say in who they play it is a schedule set by the league.
Asterik this!

No, Miami should have the asterisk. After all, the 1972 Miami Dolphins had a shorter season and a much easier schedule.
Shula's team was also fined heavily for breaking the rules as well that year.
However let's not count our boobies before they've hatched. The Pats still have to win 7 more regular season games and 3 more postseason games to get to that point.
GO PATS!

For the schedule would hold more true to the meaning of the *
It was intended for a mark made "easier" by some legal means.
ie the original * I know of was the single season HR record in MLB because the season had 8 more games

this question is pointless, sorry. the nfl determines all of the schedules, its based on division oppenents, which division in the opposite conference and strength of schedule and finish from the previous year.
