More than ridiculous it is dangerous. We already have enough uninsured drivers on the road today, I cannot think of anywhere the Dr License isn't used as a form of ID/Citizenship, and I surely don't believe it would be to the advantage of any political leader to have them vote.

It's ridiculous that Republicans would consider giving illegals a drivers license. It makes sense, though, for Democrats to want to do so. If they can pass the legislation that they've proposed to tie-in voter registration with the issuance of a license, then look at the millions of "new voters" there would be. No doubt Linda Sanchez, D-CA, who was elected by illegals and dead people, is a supporter of this idea.

But I can easily see the Insurance Lobby wanting to get that passed. It is all about selling more car insurance. That 12 million number we keep hearing about becomes $12 billion is new accounts.

Here is the part I don't understand. My Swedish neighbor got some kind of license or stamp on her Euro license. So why can't a Mexican get their Mexico drivers License stamped for international use

I think the whole licenses for anyone is ridiculous unless you are going to be on the road to make a living .

from 15-20 a permit should be given until you are able to log some miles driving just to get your feet wet . After that its sink or swim .

I have never once heard of any able bodied person who can see being denied a license to drive .

This means we only have a few blind people and some cripples who can not drive everyone else is capable of the task .

YES YES YES YES. You can sneak into this country, abuse its resources, take jobs away from tax-paying Americans, and get coddled for it, but if you get caught with some pot you go to jail and have no license when you get out. Who cares if illegals can get to work or not! How many Americans are out of work right now, isn't THAT important? Again, if it wasn't for the greed of corperations that want to use cheap labor, this administration would have slammed the borders shut a long time ago!

yes and no.
pros:they may get insurance,plus they can be tracked better in case some politician ever decides to do something about illegal immigration.

con:It opens up a legal battle over license suspension.

added. DC,from what I have heard the license will be marked in some way that don't allow them to vote. I'm not sure though.

Well being a U.S. Army soldier stationed in NY recently, I went in uniform at lunch to the Drivers license office to get my 'out of state license' changed to New York state.

In my possession:
Mil ID social security number on it
out of state license that has my Soc sec number on it
dog tags
Official passport
Civilian passport
Own home in this small town
Two registered vehicles in this state

Informed 'without' a paper card sent from Soc sec department with my soc sec number typed on it, I could not get my license changed 'because I could be illegally trying to get a drivers license'

Apparently I needed to be an illegal alien to legally get a NY drivers license without my soc sec card.

Not just ridiculous but downright criminal. Illegal immigrants are criminals and anyone helping them in any way is guilty of aiding and abetting

Next thing you know we'll be GIVING them new cars too.

considering most road signs I know of in my area are in English only, you bet it's ridiculous.

I agree with DC that it's a dangerous idea... what about signs that say things like "bridge freezes before road" or "blind drive"...? If illegal aliens don't understand English and can't read the signs, they could cause a lot of accidents and possibly deaths.
