I believe all jobs now days is "not what you know who you know". Everytime I apply for a position within my company the next thing I do is look at the company directory to see if I know anyone in that department. If I find someone that I know and that know my work habits I will send them an email imforming them that I have applied for a position in their department.

Yes and No. On the one hand, black people do have to work harder in certain cases because of the racism that still exists in this world...but that doesn't mean that we can't make it, and it certainly doesn't mean that white people can just walk in and get any job. They have to compete too. But life is about connections, and if they have family and friends at the top (which is usually occupied by white males) then yes they have a better chance. So it's really not a clean cut answer.
P.S. So you're a successful black woman making $16.00 an hr? Well I'm single and ready to mingle ;)

It's not exactly racist, but it is very naive ... 99% of the working population have to earn high status jobs, whatever their race
ethnic origin.
The world is a lot more complicated than you imply.
EDIT:
Your question was not written in a way that indicated that it came from a well-educated, successful adult.
You are successful, yet still paid hourly? Sixteen what? Pounds? Dollars? I couldn't comment on dollars, but would not regard that as a "high pay bracket" in pounds.
Yes, there are still prejudiced white employers (at least in the UK), but it really does sound like your friend is making excuses.
When I employ people, I chose the ones who can best do the job, regardless of any other consideration. I believe that all of the business people I know do the same.

Black people have to earn things just as anyone else does in the world...if some one knows someone its not based on their color, culture or what ever it is its because they are lucky to know someone?
Now here's a question with in a question...why is it that the majority of African American people keep using the 200 years ago slave act to argue their point.
I am a history major and have studied for many years about this country's and others history....here's a quick lesson for those people who can let something go that they had no part of.....
the richer African sold the less valuable tribe or village worker that was traded to the richer African man fro either cattle or other type of royalties. the richer African then sold the individual or groups to a group of people from Brittan and Spain who then turned around and sold them to not only white folks but also black folks here in America for farm work. I do agree that people should never be treated in that way however they were, some were also given houses, cars, women and money and some were even given a little bit of freedom for the extra hard work they put which made more money for the plantation owner.
So before anyone who likes to open their mouth and start crying about something they having to do with...know the real history behind it before you proceed to look like an idiot.

I think it can go either way. I've seen some cases where black people get hired because their black or because they know someone and white people who have had to earn their way.....same thing when it comes to males getting jobs that they would not hire a female for or vice versa. I think everyone has been discriminated against at one point in their lives just for different reasons....color, sex, height etc......
I was not hired at a couple different jobs once because of color and once because of height. It's not right but it happens unfortunately. I try to look at it as I was probably not meant to be there and who ever made that decision will have to live with that and will get whats coming to them eventually everyone does...

Well sometimes it can be true; however it has always seemed the case to me that most white people pay their dues just like everyone else. Remember though, it can also be true sometimes that a company, having to fulfill a race quota, must hire a less qualified black person over a more qualified white person. Or vice versa.
Hiring is never fair when the question of race is involved. People should get in a position basedon their skills PERIOD.

You are probably right to a very, very small extent for the possible reason that the majority of owners of the largest companies are usually white (excluding Oprah Winfrey) and therefore any nepotism that might occur would likely include other white family members. But for most cases I would have to say there probably isn't much difference between the average white person and a person of a different race in the United States when it comes to the effort that is expected to become recipients of high paying jobs.

As a white American male I know that I am to blame for all the world's problems (lol I am being funny...relax)
Anyway I don't really agree. For the most part I don't really see whites just getting jobs by knowing people, I think your friend is mistaken with this idea....if this were true I would not be struggling as I am...I would be raking in dough because I knew people.
Blacks think whites are in cohoots and whites think blacks get job just because of race....grass always looks greener on the other side...aand everyone likes green

No, I'm white and trust me, my dad owns two insurance agencies and I work for his company and I am having to work my way up from the bottom of the Totem Pole. Also I know a lot of black people that have great paying jobs that seem very under qualified imo. I think that it doesn't matter what color you are, some people just get away with things that others can't.

I don't think it works that way at all. I'm white and I haven't had anything at all handed to me. I don't have a high paying job. I have to work at every thing I do. Nothing is given to me or anyone in my family or anyone that I know. Good luck. 2D
