I understand that there is a lot of ND fans out there...but EVERY team has a lot of fans. Why commit yourself to just one team...and then when that team is 1-8, you look foolish. When Michigan beat them up last year all the announcers could comment about were previous games where the Fighting Irish played well. My question is, do you think a major network should commit to one team?

For those of you who keep answering that as long as the ratings are up then NBC is content...the ratings are 2.1, the worse they have ever been. But, I also read that NBC is considering extending the contract??!?!

I've hated that media contract of Notre Dame's for years. There was always a better game on at the same time that could've been televised. NOW, I think it's GREAT that Notre Dame is losing week in and week out on National television for everyone to see. I think they should have the Pope ride around the field in the Popemobile prior to the game like LSU does with Mike the Tiger.

No. The 1-8 Irish still draw the same amount of viewers as a 8-1 Irish team would. Their fans base is die-hard loyal and dedicated.
As long as the ratings stay strong NBC is ok with it.

As long as people keep tuning in, it doesn't really make any difference to NBC if they win or lose. Even if the ratings are not that high, ND gets a good demographic that advertisers will pay a premium for.

Networks pick up conferences, not teams. Notre Dame has no conference and they draw tons of fans, so no, I don't think NBC regrets it. A bad year is a bad year, next year will be different.

in fairness, all the major conferences have their own tv deals. since nd doesnt have a conference, it makes sense to have a deal with nbc. plus, its the only college football nbc shows, so no other games are pushed out of the way.

NBC needed a reality show that feature failure mixed with comedy, and Notre Dame provided both,as a bonus they also get a coach that can be seen as, anyone can coach in college if you have the right connections

It all comes down to money. That will determine whether they regret it or not. It has nothing to do with the quality of the games they are putting on.

The Irish are getting exactly what they deserve for firing Ty. New rule, if you lose to Navy, you should get bumped down to DII.
