He's an average Joe at best who now after back surgery has more than likely lost some pop.

I have watched Joe Crede for some time now:
1) He is a top 5 glove guy. Honestly - he saved the Sox 2 games alone in the 2005 World Series. He makes outstanding play after outstanding play. But no one talks him up in the national media because he plays for the White Sox. He should have been the 2006 gold glove winner - but that is just a popularity contest.
2) He was not a big RBI guy because he batted low in the order. Guys who bat 7th or 8th do not get big RBI numbers.
3) Crede has had many clutch hits. He is the guy us White Sox fans wanted up when the game was on the line. Honestly.
4) He will hit 25 home runs a year. He is not a big power guy. But no one said he was.
5) He is a career .259 hitter, but 2005 and 2006 were great years for him (as last year he was hurt).
Crede is clutch. The White Sox will not deal with his agent - some guy named Boras - so they are looking to move him. He is still under 30 years old, and honestly has some of the best plays in White Sox history. I will miss him if he goes.

Joe Crede has been improving regularly each season. He was a key part of the White Sox' World Series run in '05. While his improvement might not show on the stat line, he has been steady at it.

Joe Crede is an overrated player. I don't blame the White Sox for shopping him. He is a good fielder and can hit an occasional homerun but he strikes out way too much. They need someone at the corner that can draw a walk or two, not someone swinging for the fences on every at bat.

I completely agree with Dr. J on this one. Joe is an underrated player in my opinion. He makes incredible plays in the field and comes up with many clutch hits, but many people have never even heard his name. He has helped the White Sox out a lot, and I would want him back next year.

Crede is a good ballplayer...he was a big part of the White Sox championship year in 2005.....if the Yanks get him, he will be very good for them also...don't discount a player like him or he will come back to haunt you.Like Magglio Ordonez has done for my Tiger-Chi-sox thought HE was damaged goods--last laugh for us on that!-(A.L. batting champ-2007)

He is overhyped by many people, he is a good glove guy, not the best ever, not Brooks Robinson Jr. but a solid stable guy. He has no ability to hit for average but by Sox fans is remembered by those few times he came through with the game on the line...they do not look at stats they deal from their heart and they can not stand the idea of trading their beloved one for a CF who is up in age!
I would do it for the injury risk, back surgeries kill 3B careers.

The Sox shot themselves in the foot with this fool. Each year in the offseason, they very subtly and non-publicly lower their expectations for him. Yet each year during the season they praise him as the next greatest 3rd baseman. They know he's gonna bomb, so they try to show him in the best light possible. Each year he does play bad, the Sox lower their expectation even more. Now they have no choice but to get rid of him, but nobody wants him because they've all seen how bad he really is.

I'm trying to find a way to argue against what you said, but I can't ...you're right, he's a career .259 hitter (and horrible .305 OBP) and not even close to being an elite player. He had an obvious career year in 2006, and even that wasn't all that impressive - his .323 OBP was still below average.
They're probably trying to hype him in an effort to get more from the deal.
