Why is Joe Taxpayer paying for the 535 members of congress to work out in exclusive gyms inside the congressional building? Can't they afford to join a gym just like everyone else?

And perhaps the more important question - why isn't the public allowed in to see it?

Thats the perks of government employees.

If we don't like it then we need to stand up collectively and demand changes. It's ridiculous. These are millionaires. They should have gyms at their homes. Oy! It's bad enough we pay them for life and give them free health care. Why am I paying for some rich sorry person to have free healthcare while I am not afforded the same privilege? I really work.

Balogney on this being a justified expense. BS! I'm sure there are plenty of exclusive gyms that offer security. Give me a break. How lame.

Because they want it. Personally....they are supposed to be our servants....they aren't doing a good job and the majority should be fired. Lord knows we would at any of our regular jobs. I think they should be paid minimum wage and their constituents should vote as to whether they get a raise or not. They are supposed to serve temporarily....not make a career out of it. They are all already wealthy and don't need this excess "bonus". Believe me.....when they talk budgets.....there could be a panel of housewives who could chop the heck out of their un-necessary expenses and get them to tighten their own belts really well.

Most of these people are already wealthy, so they can more than afford membership in one of the many swank gyms and spas in Washington. Let's take away their pools and saunas!

Because our government is a cesspool of corruption and special interest groups and we are dumb enough to be sitting here arguing over "LIBERAL and CONSERVATIVE" while both republicans and dems are laughing their heinies off all the way to the bank. That's how you gain control of a group of people: divide and conquer.

It's a secured environment, much more so than a public health club would be.

It seems to be a perfectly reasonable expense to me.
