Looking for a Romantic weekend getaway that isn't too expensive in Southern California??

Catalina is a good idea. Julian is nice but really busy on weekends...Pine Hills Lodge there is a bit out of town and better atmosphere I think.

I really like the Morro Bay area for a romantic weekend. Two places I can recommend are the Baywood Inn and Backbay Inn (both bed and breakfast structure but more of hotel style accomodations) in Baywood Park, which is in the south end of Morro Bay. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g32048-Baywood_Park_California-Hotels.html
Both have some rooms with fireplaces, they are across from a sleepy bay, near an Audobon Sanctuary, and Montana de Oro State Park; not far from Hearst Castle. A little bit farther drive than the Los Angeles area but really great for getting away from it all, and travel time comperable to Catalina.

Julian has some really quaint bed and breakfasts. You could also go to Palm Springs for the weekend. I LOVE the aerial tramway there. Catalina would be cool but might be a little spendy...
