You need a great working knowledge of anatomy, human and animal. Dynamic figure drawing and fore shortening are must have skills. Understanding of lighting to convey mood. I assume that you already know story telling is important. Being able to render everyday objects and actions as well as fight scenes. Many artists are great at fight scenes but cannot render a couple having an argument over breakfast or some other mundane activity. Definitely practice those points and it'll be a big step towards going pro. I know there are others I'm not remembering off the top of my head, but this should get the list started at least.
