Respect is not gender specific. Either you offer it, or you don't.
Anyone who can't respect me simply isn't worth my time or consideration. You don't give it, you don't get it. Doesn't matter your race, creed, religion, gender, or color.

Usually people who repeat the same phrase over and over again are the ones who are trying to either prove to you or themselves that they are not bull$hitting. Those men who really respect women, rarely feel the need to say it because it's a given and obvious. I usually get suspicious when someone feels the need to repeat himself over and over again.
How do I feel about men who disrespect women? Not much really. I usually don't care if they're attempting to disrespect me, but I kind of feel the need to step in if I see it done to others, especially if they're young or have the passive kind of personality of not speaking up or defending themselves. Call it my maternal instinct of wanting to protect those who can't defend themselves, which is why my family nick named me Lioness :)

Some men are aware of their disrespect toward women, and they still choose to keep that attitude. For the one that are not aware that they are doing so,I would point it out to them if they disrespect me.In the even of him denying it and tell me that he does respect women, that's when you go to "plain B".
TREAT OTHER AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.
Shows by demonstrating his actions and his ways toward him, then ask him if he felt disrespected. At times, when they can't see it,you have to make them see it.

I agree with Tracey... but I will also add that many of them are completely unaware of their disrespect... they are simply so set in a certain way of thinking they completely are unaware of the fact that its disrespectful. I'm not saying that makes the attitude acceptable or that nothing should be done... just that it becomes that much more challenging to reach out to these people and make them become aware of their state of mind.

I don't think much of either men or women who say one thing, and do another.

i don't usually think of the person that i am with as a 'man' or a 'woman': it seems such an unhelpful way of thinking about people.
i know what a 'born again christian' is like; i know what sort of person a 'bigot' is; i have a fairly clear idea of what i think about someone who is a 'poet', an 'arms dealer', or an 'evangelical non-smoker'.
but i don't know what sort of a person a 'man' is, or a 'woman'.
so someone who said to me 'I respect women' would strike me as eccentric the way it would trouble me if someone told me 'i respect bald people' or 'i respect people who ride a bicycle to work on tuesdays.'
i'd probably think such a person was slightly feeble-minded.

That's their way of controlling and manipulating women, killing their gaurd and walls so they are too vulnerable to defend themselves at first few strikes.

Anyone who lacks respect for others also lacks respect for themselves. This is always the case.
If you do not respect yourself, you cannot respect others.

They have this distorted, screwed up vision as to what respect is usually.

I agree with Tracy. They paternalistically "respect" women who follow their orders and instructions. Much like I would "respect" my pet robot who does my dishes.
