To be honest I dont think it really matters where you stay.
I have stayed at Luxor,Mirage,Venetian and Torpicana.
At the end of the day it is just a room - most of the time you are away from the hotel you are staying in and spending time in other hotels. Personally I would stay on the strip though rather than downtown.

I have to agree with the poster that said since you stayed on the strip, pick one of the down town hotels. They are older but most if not all have been refurbished. We stayed at the Fitzgerald a few years ago. It was very nice and the staff was friendly
The atmosphere downtown is very different than the strip. The Freemont experience was a lot of fun and it's a lot slower paced than the strip.
We did take time go down to the strip for a while too, but there is so much entertainment at night downtown. Must be 4 or 5 stages and the street vendors are fun to watch.
We did just see Defending the Caveman at the Golden Nugget and will probably stay there next time we go. The pool has a tube slide that goes through their aquarium. And the hotel/casino looks very nice.
BTW, we have stayed at the Luxor a couple of times, It's the only place that we've stayed twice.

The Mirage! I always stay there when I go and I'm never disappointed! There's the nightblub Jet inside the hotel, the buffet and other restaurants are awesome as well. If you go during the summer, the pool is amazing. They also have the dolphin habitat and Secret Garden of Sigfreid and Roy at the back of the hotel. If you're interested in seeing a show, the new Cirque de Soilel show Love is there. My mom saw it and said it was great (she's a HUGE Beatles fan). It's a very enjoyable place to stay.
Treasure Island is pretty good too. I haven't stayed at the Wynn or Venetian, but I know people who have and they said those places are great too.

Ok, so you stayed in a strip hotel, the next logical thing would be to try a stay in a downtown area hotel, which is what my wife and I did. We chose the Golden Nugget and had the most absolute AWESOME time there...the shark pool with the slide to the middle, the great buffet and restaurants, the luxurious spa lounge, the central location that made getting to any part of downtown easy...and yes, the proximity to the Girls of Glitter Gulch bar, where we had a lovely time watching the very sexy (if pricey, but most things in Vegas are pricey) topless girls! I highly recommend the Golden Nugget!

You can do a lot better than the Luxor, try the Mirage or MGM Grand for the big Vegas hotel experience. For something younger and cooler, the Hard Rock or the Palms. Upscale, you could try the Bellagio or Venetian.

I aboslutely love Venetian. Palazzo is greater modern, and slightly nicer, yet in any different case comparable. i've got in no way heard of subject concerns with the skinny partitions, yet perhaps it somewhat is the case. i admire that the rooms at Venetian are all suites, and the beds are amazingly mushy - in all probability the wonderful inn beds i've got ever had. the team at Venetian is often exceedingly sturdy - there tend to be some infants with the aid of fact the club there is between the biggest on the strip (Tao). in spite of the indisputable fact that that isn't any longer too lots of a party place, and it would not tend to entice lots of older human beings the two. the area of Venetian is large too - you're in a hectic part of the strip with plenty to work out and do interior of sight. i might additionally evaluate Caesars. that is probably my sought after Vegas inn. The rooms are not all suites, yet they're all very severe-high quality. The pool section there is astounding, and the area only can't be beat. they actually have a huge club (organic), yet seem to entice a blended crowd. There are many times quite a few conventions happening there, yet there are a number of infants around to boot.
