I agree with Randi. The art of Hedge Witchery would have been the most utilized tho it was not called witchery at the time. They were healers, herbalists, midwives, The equivalent of todays doctors.

It would have to be alchemy. It was the search for a chemical, called the philosopher's stone, that would transmutate base chemicals into gold, and give the owner eternal life (yes, just like in Harry Potter). It was banned in most countries, but about every king had a court alchemist anyway--he didn't want anyone else having it but him. The alchemists were usually good scam artists--they could hold off the king for years, saying, "I've almost got the formula right--it will just take a few months." A few of them either lost their heads (literally) or had to sneak off in the night when the king lost his patience.

The use of positive thought, positive action and love of nature to create an atmosphere of positive energies which are then used for our own benfits. Wicca teaches that there is certainly a higher power, namely the Goddess and God, often refered to solely as the Goddess, but that the Goddess is always attainable, for She is everyhwere: in the tree, in the leaf, in the ant, within ourselves. In this sense, Wicca is a pantheistic religion. (Pantheism is the belief that God can be found in all things: "pan" meaning "Everything" , "Theism": having to do with Deity)
