Went to Iraq for a year and a half.... too many brave and stupid things to list here. Some were more brave than others and some were just stupid. But, not to sound like a pansy, not crying when on the phone with my mom half a world away was probably my bravest act. Of course, I never had one of those cool Hollywood save a man's life moment while taking on 18 commandos with a bandanna on my head. I've never jumped in front of a bullet or been shot either. So, yeah, not crying while in hell seems kinda brave to me.

Was terrified of heights - to try to rid myself of this paralyzing fear I took flying lessons and went up in small planes. Was so terrified I couldn't speak for two hours after each outing. That was probably the bravest.

Helping take care of my sister-in- law when she was dying of cancer. She also died while I was with her. At the time I did not think I was brave, and I question at times if it even was. I do know I was scared and had to be brave for her, my brother, and my nephew. I know I feel I can face and endure a lot more pain than I ever thought possible.

I told a news reporter my story and she spread it all over the world and it was scary. Then I went in front of hundreds of students and told my story and that was less scary. Then some guys came over with a camera and I told my story again, ah I got used to it by now.
