Even here in the south where seafood is a huge industry and a common food choice, most women still think it's "icky". They complain that fish smell funny and that they're slimy. Maybe the fish think you're "icky" because of your dry hands and human scent! I believe most women would probably like seafood if they'd stop being so closed-minded and actually try it. It's a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids and oysters are even seen by some as an afrodesiac! Women seem to never outgrow that little girl phase that hates slimy things or anything that's different. That is why most women call the man to come and kill the spiders, roaches etc. that are in the house.

81% of women don't like seafood. 17% love it. 2% are indifferent. Haha there I go with those statistics again!

The statistics for men are as follows...97% of men like seafood, .5% dislike it and 2.5% are indifferent. These statistics were all taken from in-depth studies done by the U.S.O. (United Seafood Organization).

I guess the consensus here is that most women in fact DO love seafood. I will get with the U.S.O. and tell them that I think their statistics may be skewed and that they need to do further research, and definitely interview alot more people. I stand corrected and soon the U.S.O. will.

Why the hell does this matter?

Ah, you live in the south. That might explain why your questions rarely make sense to me. I think this might be a cultural thing. Why that is, I don't know. But I live on the west coast and seafood is pretty popular here. I personally love seafood. Every year on my birthday my boyfriend takes me to my favorite coastal town, and we eat and eat and eat.

And if it's the women who always have a problem with slimy things, why is it men always think they want to cook with me, until it comes time to handle the raw chicken?

I heart seafood - even sushi!
In fact, I just had some of the Super Buffet for lunch - with peel and eat shrimp, salmon and sushi.

Yeah - the gals I work with a hard to get to try new things. But another one I work with brings me California Rolls because she loves the stuff as much as I do.

I love seafood my boyfriend hates it, which his reasoning is why would someone want to eat sea roaches, and fish that swim in their own, you know.. So its understandable why not many people like seafood. I pretty much stick to fish and shellfish. Its a matter of taste not because its slimy

I love seafood! Especially shellfish. Unfortunately Mr. Bellavita hates shellfish.

He's also an ex-tank commander, though, so I don't think he's still in that "little girl phase"...

Besides, everyone knows that 85% of all statistics are completely made up.

Nice statistics to back it up. What are the rates for men?

This is just my side of it. I can't taste or smell very well so when I eat it's all about the texture. The texture of oysters and shrimp make me puke. Salmon and calamari is pretty good if done right.

I pick up the spiders and bring them outside then wash my hands. There's no roaches in this area so there's no problem there.

if i had to choose to eat either meat or seafood for the rest of my life, i would choose seafood, in a second.

But i do think that scaling and cleaning fish is messy and smelly.

Maybe you know 1 or 2 women who don't like seafood, but they are really in the minority, in my experience.
