elected?

You'll naturally trust the executive to do what's right without oversight - right?

No Johnny; I don't trust ANY pres with this unchecked power. That's what the FISA court oversight is all about... checks & balances.

FISA does allow approval of warrants up to 72 hours after the fact. This is exactly the issue. Bush ignored FISA. How can we know what's being monitored? We can't, we just have to trust them. Can you trust any admin not to spy on, say, political enemies? Do you think Nixon was trustworthy without oversight?

what is so surprizing is that it appears their hatred of Liberals is huge, but they don't get it that a balance must be held in the use or overuse of power....Very Short sighted...I wouldn't want a Democratic president to have more powers, because then a Conservative would use them as well....The best way is an even balance and the rule of law. What's wrong with honest, accountable behavior and a strict adherence to the rule of law

WHEN the next president uses these same surveillance techniques, I am sure that your support will depend entirely on whether there is a D or and R after their name.

And yes. I will trust the executive to monitor the phone calls of suspected terrorists, regardless of which party they come from.

Edit: How long does a phone call last? Long enough to get the warrant? FISA should be able to approve warrants in hindsight.

I'm sure they won't. I also think that if a Democrat is elected, one of the first things they will want to do is repeal the Patriot Act as they will not want that much power in the hands of a Democrat.
