did cricketers years ago wear ties and collars and if so did the captain wear black with a starched collar?

i have a postcard which has a group picture of 25 men in whites with black or dark coloured ties which are not identical and 1 chap who is dressed in black with a white starched shirt and collar and white dickie bow tie on it. I am thinking that they are some some of sports team. Any ideas.

That was probably a team photo like today's test team in blazers, try google image for W G Grace

Yes they did because it was considered gentleman's game. Now it is more competitive in nature. Earlier they used to play it for enjoyment. But it is professional now. No longer amateur.
