...a correct impression?

(Americans tend to use the politics section on YA, Brits Current Events)

A lot of Brits will say most Americans are decent, just don't like their president - is this because we meet the decent ones, for example the ones who travel outside America?

Unfortunately, yes.
I am American and can count, on my fingers, the number of people that I know, that actually know whats going on.
Its truly saddening that so many people are so ignorant.

Albeit, some people know what may be going on in politics but are ignorant to what's going on in religion. Or some people may know what's going on in religion but not know anything about how the media controls what people think, purchase and what they watch and listen to.

Our education system is literally going down the toilet and there is no uproar.
EDIT: Let me re-phrase. This administration is constantly passing new laws, that make changes to U.S. law; and there is no uproar. Patriot Act and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act are just 2 examples.

It's unfortunate that even when people are told, they feel no anger. Their attitude is to go along, to get along. Besides they have too much on their plates already, what with bills to pay and schedules so packed tight that they don't even have time to exercise or relax from the stresses of the day.

We are paying for it though, literally. We pay taxes to the IRS, when there is no law that says we have to. In fact, the Supreme Court threw the ammendment out, that would have required us to pay taxes.
Our ignorance has made us one of the unhealthiest countries. We are materialistic and depend heavily on toxic drugs because we know nothing of natural medicines.

I do have to mention that whenever there is a protest or somebody comes along with some sense, it is hardly potrayed in the media. There are instances where people shine with knowledge, but it simply isn't covered by the media.
My point being, there is hope.

I 'was' civil before Obama got elected. However, the same people who ****** this up with voting in Bush twice! have again voted for a moron. The majority wanted Bush to serve two terms and now they want Obama in there. Maybe they will vote for Obama twice too? There is no point in being polite when the majority vote for a guy who starts two bankrupting wars on the other side of the planet and there is no point in being polite when they choose a new guy who instantly does nearly a trillion dollars worth of bailouts and continues the bankrupting wars not to mention his healthcare "reform". We needed Ron Paul, we still need Ron Paul, someone to push into check the Federal Reserve, the ongoing wars, the border security and do something that helps this country for a change.

Many participants in the Y/A political section could think Bush has never done wrong, And will resort to any tactics. Mainly because of there in-maturity thus for rendering that forum mundane, In reality realistic Americans do not like the president or more so the republican format geared to big business and putting fiscal responsibilities on the middle class and ignoring the people living in poverty.

We're not.

However if you look closer, the Politics section is basically a place for people to talk about how stupid Americans are (wait, I think that's this whole board....but anyway). So most of the arrogance that you see is a defense mechanism.

I find it interesting that you Brits associate Bush w/all Americans. Your ignorance is pure.
Have you ever heard an American on here go on about your PM or your Queen?
Most of stay in the politics section because there are intelligent responses and questions about real issues, not the latest details about the McCanns from your defunct and ridiculous rags.

I'm an American, and the last time I heard Bush's approval rating was around 38% and support for the war was dwindling. Don't let the small minority on YA fool you.

They have always been here. Seems to me that since 911 the mainstream has been more tolerant of some of the neo-conservative view points. Because of that they have been more vocal and vitriol and have successfully minimized the more tolerant and liberal viewpoints in the USA. There is a push now to bring both sides of the conversation back into view now that SOME of the conservative policies are proving to have been just plain wrong. One enduring quality of America is our ability to reflect and adapt to our blunders.

The only reason Americans stick to the politics section is because you Brits keep blathering on about the McCanns over here.

Now if you'd find some topless pictures of Kate, that'd be different. There would be more Americans over here than you could shake a stick at.

Americans are arrogant? You got a chrisis going on over there and your so arragant and stupid to know it. When it blows up in your face you'll have it coming to you. It's from your own making.

SUPAI: You had me fooled there for a minute reading your answer, until i came to: "Our Constitution is constantly being amended by this dictatorship and there is no uproar."

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

It sure isn't the Constitution. It takes 2/3 of the House and Senate to PURPOSE AN AMENDMENT.....AND......2/3 of the 50 states to pass it before it becomes an amendment to the Constitution! LOOK IT UP IN YOUR ...........

funny huh? - I never go to the political section in here - I love my British friends in news & events!! Most of them anyway - I don't like the ones that lump all of us American in together.
I think you'll find (like you said) that few of us agree with our leader & his views, and his ways of handling situations.

I think the people that think all Americans agree with/ and are like Bush are narrow & shallow minded
