Oh, wow... I can hear the whining about the infrastructure already... but it's okay for us to go over and blow the crap out of Iraq's infrastructure? Leave those poor people in the dark without even running water?

I'll just answer the title of the question, because even if some major power plants were hit, the government no doubt has some secret measure up there hands that the public doesn't know about. And no... I seriously doubt the US could survive very long without electricity. Most countries couldn't in fact, except those that don't depend on it so much. Wait a minute... this is a dumb question, the answer should be obvious... unless this is like a poll thing, then I revoke my comment above, and in turn replace it with this comment. This is a dumb poll, since the answer is obvious, and with an obvious answer any deviation from it in the form of an inferior opinion will simply throw the earth's rotation of it's axis.

Americans are addicted to their electical gadgets. However, that is not where the damage would be. There is not a single major industry in the US that does not rely on electricity. If the power sources were gone, then our ability to produce would be gone. That would prevent us from being able to sustain ourselves or to even fight back properly. We would burn thru what products we have and would then be vulnerable.
The good news is that we have thousands of plants producing electricity and if any force were able to take then all down then that force would be stronger than any the world has seen before. I doubt that even a nuclear armed country could take out all of our power plants. They could hit the major ones but we still have all of the smaller ones to fall back on.
In that case, the US would divert all electricity to areas where it was needed. We the people would have to do without. However, for the most part, I believe that we could get by. It would mean a major change in life though. Eventually, we would adjust.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

I think we might very well find out before long.
Bush is still president so I am getting prepared, saving water and supplies to survive and I have a whole house generator so hopefully the Natural gas lines buried don't get harmed.
In any case I think many would die just because of no electric. We depend to much on electric and most are not prepared to fend for themselves in the heat and cold.
We should be prepared for a disasters anyway.
Only the strong or prepared will survive.

I think we would survive as a nation. We would be able to rebuild the power grid. But during that time millions would die.The first to go would be the ones on life support. The elderly would be next if the power was out for a long time. They are dependent on air condition and heating. Before electricity the life expectancy of the average adult was 45.So you can figure out the scenario from there.

I think, Americans just like some of the major countries are smart enough to survive without electricity. Of course it would be difficult for some to get used to but, really there are still Omish communities that could help out, boyscouts, and seriously why do you think we keep the tradition of camping and fishing alive? We're still preparing for the worst.

i think most of America would shut down. people have become so dependent on electricity that they don't know the basic fundamentals of survival. just look at what happens after a bad storm when power is out for a few days... it's chaos!

That's one of the basic principles of war. Taking out infrastructure: electrical plants, water plants, communications etc. That cuts off the military from the government.
As to your question, it would be anarchy. Huge los of life in hospitals, elderly not to mention the looting and other social crimes.

It would certainly cause some chaos but we lived without power once and we could again. It is not a necessity for survival, we just use it for many things. The Amish and I'm sure many others do now.
